We proactively create safe pathways for people whose homes are affected by climate change to ensure a world in which all humans can live with dignity.

Wherever we come from, we have the right to be safe. People leave their homes in search of shelter, food, and safety as a last resort. Research shows us that increasing climate impacts make displacement and migration more likely. Planning for the movement of people is the most important way we must adapt as a society. As a caring community, the right thing to do is to create safe routes for people who need to move within and between countries, and to welcome people in new places so they can thrive and support themselves and their families.

Right now, our government is doing the opposite, spreading chaos, fear, and pain. As health professionals, we are called to care, stand with courage, and hold onto our shared humanity on the path ahead.

As governmental violence and occupation inflict pain on our neighbors and communities, there are repeated accounts of blatant violations of constitutional rights, racial profiling, violation of Indigenous sovereignty and rights, and disruption of health care access and care.

We stand in solidarity with our neighbors and fellow health professionals, who are rooted in our ethical and professional oaths to meet basic human needs, which include: safety, equitable access to healthcare services, promoting community wellness, antiracism, and “do no harm.” We firmly support peaceful protest, freedom of speech, and respect for all people- no matter where they're from. Those rights are as fundamental as clean air, water, and a healthy climate.

We ask our communities and elected officials to join us in this call for solidarity, peace, and justice. To protect our communities in the face of the current constitutional crisis and attacks on human dignity, and to build communities resilient to the climate crisis, as health professionals, we are called to stand with our neighbors to provide life-sustaining care to our patients and live by our professional oaths.

We ask that our elected officials join us and stand by us by pledging to protect our communities and our citizens’ constitutional rights, and to protect the safety within people's homes, schools, and healthcare facilities. As we are held to our professional codes, as are you; please join us in serving our patients and communities.

We invite health professionals looking for a safe place to talk and build community resilience to upcoming care conversations:
