Wisconsin is facing an environmental and public health crisis as the state considers permitting a new 41‑mile segment of Enbridge’s Line 5 oil pipeline around the Bad River Reservation. The proposed reroute threatens water, wetlands, tribal lands, and the health of communities across northern Wisconsin. In response, a coalition of health professionals, tribal leaders, and environmental justice advocates has come together to speak out against the project. A contested case hearing is now underway and will conclude in the first week of October. From potential contamination of the Bad River watershed to the destruction of critical wetlands and inadequate mitigation plans, the proposal raises deep concerns about environmental justice and tribal rights.
