About The Event
How can the 1995 Chicago heat disaster help us understand the relationship between structural racism, extreme inequity and the climate crisis today? Join Peabody Award-winning filmmaker Judith Helfand and special guests (a rabbi, a public health expert and a policymaker) for a discussion exploring the growing U.S. movement to declare racism a public health crisis, the power of text to ignite change and transform policy, and the role of faith-based organizing at this critical moment. Excerpts from the film COOKED: Survival by ZIP Code will be screened. Space will be created for personal audience reflection and action steps for making a difference starting in your own ZIP Code. This event is an important opportunity to bring together public health and disaster preparedness experts with Jewish faith leaders who are using their expertise, access, pulpits and vision for equity and climate justice.
